  • Year 4 and Year 5 trip to Silverstone – November 2023 - Our Year 4 and Year 5 children went on a school trip to Silverstone and had the best time, they thoroughly enjoyed the day and even wrote a card to say thank you to the office staff for organising.
  • KS1 – Fire station visit – October 2023 - KS1 had an exciting visit from St Albans Fire Station. The children had an amazing time learning all about the Fire Engine.
  • Kidzania September 2023 - As part of our aspirations week our year 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 classes went to Kidzania, which is a scaled city replica of real life for children designed to empower and inspire. I think we can all agree, our children had a fantastic time.
  • Music - Year 2 have enjoyed listening and responding to instruments being played by Mr Makondo. We loved the rhythm, rhyme and exploring responses to music. We created fantastic call and response chants and had fun with our learning.
  • Geography - This past week, for our Geography Entry Point lesson, we used Minecraft to help facilitate our new learning on megacities (our focus for the half term). A map pack was installed for the game that was a player-built recreation of the city of London, which included such places as Big Ben, the Tower of London, …
  • Science Workshop - Our Year 5 Group went to Beaumont Secondary School recently for a science workshop based on chemical reactions. Needless to say, the children really enjoyed themselves.
  • Learning about shapes - The children have been learning about 2D flat shapes. They have been using lolly and sticks to create 2d and explore 3d shapes. This has given us the children an opportunity to investigate what shapes are around us and to creating different shapes with exiting shapes.
  • Caterpillar Patterns - Reception have been exploring caterpillars as part of our mini beasts’ interests. We used this interest to inspire us to create repeating patterns.
  • Nursery - Our Nursery children have been creating lovely recipes with the mud and sand.
  • Becoming artists - In Early Years, we have been observers and looking at our natural world around us. We noticed how flowers bloomed and researched how to take care of them. We became artists and explored different styles, sketching, painting and using oil pastels.
  • Year 4 attendance award trip! - Year 4 did amazing with their attendance and as such had a reward trip. I think its safe to say the children and teachers had a lovely day.
  • Egyptian Topic - First lesson/entry point for our Egyptian Topic unit. We wanted to get ourselves in the Egyptian spirit by wrapping each other up as mummies. We turned it into a bit of a friendly competition to see which mummy would be the best dressed for the afterlife!
  • Library Visit - We had a lovely visit to our local Library at the London Colney Community Centre where the children really enjoyed picking out books to read.
  • Air Ambulance - At the end of last term, we had a visit from the Essex Air Abulance, they showed us some of the equipment they use whilst saving people.
  • Social Detectives - In Early Years, we have become curious detectives, noticing the changes around us and using our senses to explore spring. We used different parts of flowers to create nature art and discovered the unique marks flowers can make with paint. We had a go at trying something new and made carrot and cheese muffins.
  • Maths Everywhere - In Early Years, the children have been exploring different mathematical concepts through different contexts, including storybooks, puzzles, songs, rhymes, puppet play, and games. At London Colney, we believe in making the most of the moments throughout the day to highlight mathematics skills, for example, in daily routines, activities, and other curriculum areas.
  • Library Visit - Year 2 visited our local library during our world book day. We browsed in the children’s library and enjoyed reading a story called ‘The Day the Crayon’s Quit. Back in the classroom, we re-read the story and based our learning on the text.
  • Creating our own Roman Soldier Helmets - To finalise our first Spring half term, we decided to celebrate all the learning we had covered on The Romans by making our own Roman Soldier helmets. Year 1 – Art Week 2023

In Year 1 we have been learning about Any Goldsworthy. Andy Goldsworthy is a British sculptor and photographer. He is know for using natural materials such as rock, mud, pin cones, leaves and branches to create his art work. We explored his work and created our own art piece replicating his style.
