Our Kindness Curriculum

In Year 3,  we have been covering the Kindness Curriculum. Kindness is a powerful tool for nurturing the well-being of everyone. Scientific studies have shown that kindness has a great number of physical and emotional benefits which support people to be happy, confident, well-rounded individuals.

The Kindness Curriculum presents activities designed to build the attributes of empathy, gratitude, perspective, honesty, self-compassion, self-acceptance, humility, collaboration, mindfulness, meditation, trust, affiliation and humour.

Over the past three weeks we have focused on Empathy, Trust and Positivity. Here is some information and images about the three areas we have covered so far …

Empathy

We spoke about how  we can get angry, sad, frustrated, nervous, happy, or embarrassed, but sometimes we do not have the words to talk about how we are feeling. We engaged in a collage art activity which provides an opportunity for us to label and point out how different emotions might be expressed.

Trust

We spoke about how trust is central to healthy relationships. We engaged in fun activity which explored trust. It was called  ‘The Buddy Walk’. This required one friend to lead the other around the playground – blindfolded.

After,  we reflected on our Buddy Walk and we spoke about how we felt when we were able to trust our partner. We agreed that we all felt  safe and comfortable. We discussed that being able to trust someone is an important part of being a good friend.

Positivity

We spoke how important it is to share positive vibes and have a positive outlook on life. We spoke about  how being positive can have a great impact on our emotional well-being and our learning.  We then thought about what  positive statementswe can share with one another. We created positivity jars  which share positive vibes with others contributing to positive feelings and attitudes in the classroom.

To start our day we take a positive statement out of the jar (written by a classmate)….. we love doing this every morning, it spreads positive vibes!
