What a great term of Home Learning in the Starfish class!

The Starfish class have all had a fantastic term! Everyone has been working extremely hard at home to complete all of their learning and have done a brilliant job. I am so proud of you all, and a big thank you to all of our parents and carers too! A big well done to everyone!

This term our topic has been the Anglo Saxons, we have learned all about what their lives were like, where they lived, what jewellery they wore. Some of our activities have included designing and making our own brooches, baking oat cakes and replicating their houses.

In English we have been reading the book The View by Shaun Tan and Gary Crew. We have all enjoyed the story and its mysterious happenings. The children have created poems about the city dump, written their own endings to the story, created their own viewers for important moments in their lives over the last 10 years and written news reports about the sudden disappearance of Tristan.

In Maths we have started learning about fractions! Year 5 have really been up for some fraction action, and have done a superb job at home using loads of resources to help with their learning.

We also learned to express ourselves last week during Children’s Mental Health week. Everyday we shared an assembly and discussions, practiced some mindful activities and learned to express ourselves in different ways. Some things we got up to included taking photos, going on a walk, baking, playing a board game, drawing and painting.

Our Science topic this term has been properties of materials, and we have learned all about how some materials can dissolve, some can be removed from solutions, the difference between reversible and irreversible changes, and that these changes can be caused by heating, cooling or burning.
